We’re writing to you from Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It’s our fourth consecutive summer here for SBT GRVL, arguably the best gravel cycling event in the world. Sure, we’re biased. But if you’ve listened to our podcast with founder Amy Charity this is no surprise.
The mornings start chilly (in the 50’s). The sun climbs fast and high, and by mid-afternoon it’s dry, intense heat with the brightest sun you can imagine. There’s no rain in sight. A complete shift from the storm-soaked ATL (we still get the alerts).
But it’s not just the weather that feels different. The vibe here is quieter. People don’t talk as much for sure. There’s less hustle than what we know in our metropolitan ATL’s, MIA’s and NYC’s. They’re just busy doing other things here. Riding. Hiking. Fishing. Building their day around the outdoors and avoiding the mama Moose on the path. It’s a kind of self-containment you rarely feel on the East Coast, where life revolves around interaction, ambition, and attention.
It reminds us that culture, at work or anywhere else, is always local. It’s shaped less by what’s said from the top and more by who someone actually works for. The tone is set by proximity.
That’s it. That’s the whole thing. More on Tuesday’s pod.

2. When was the most recent time that work didn’t feel like work?
3. What trade-offs are you making to stay in this role?
4. If this job disappeared tomorrow, what would you choose to do next?
