Culture is Stuck
Did you know that Walt Disney refused to make sequels?
He believed, “there are many new worlds to conquer” and that repeating past successes, no matter how beloved, could never match the excitement of exploring uncharted creative territory. In today’s world, that philosophy is obviously gone entirely. Organizations push the easy button by copying whatever their competitors do rather than risking genuine innovation.
This corporate mimicry mirrors the broader cultural stagnation infecting society. Just as AI generates endless “slop” while people retreat into nostalgia for imagined pasts, organizations find themselves trapped in cultural inertia where employees feel powerless to effect change. The workplace equivalent of AI-generated nostalgia videos? Those glossy corporate values statements remain “words on a page,” never translating into lived experience.
The fix isn’t complicated: stop hitting the easy button. Stop copying. Start creating. Admittedly, it’s scarier to build something new than to perfect someone else’s playbook. But that’s where the magic happens.

How do the pros get someone to leave a cult?
They manipulate them, of course.
